As you might have noticed, I’ve been on a kick for Asian gay-themed movies and tv shows (aka Boys Love) for a while now, and I figured some of you might appreciate a recs list. Here are some of my requirements:
The latter is unfortunately incredibly wide-spread, making many of the most popular shows unwatchable for me (looking at you, Addicted…). Even in some of the shows I mention below there are side-pairings or moments that squick me out, but that’s what the fast-forward button is for. Luckily more and more shows seem to avoid the painful clichés.
With many shows, the subtitles leave a lot to be desired, but I’m just grateful people go to the trouble to translate. For me, a show lives and dies with its main couple – I usually go back and only rewatch their storyline, ignoring everything else.
If you have any recommendations for similar movies/shows, please don’t hesitate to share, as my obsession doesn’t seem to want to end any time soon… 🙂 An (almost) complete list of what I’ve been/am/plan on watching can be found on Mydramalist.

Although I’m still adjusting to a med change, I had a great time with the gals from Jalec Squad – our daytrip to Verona was gorgeous, and the con in Milan was amazing. <3
I can’t believe I’ve become the kind of fan who gets recognised, but while I didn’t have the same level of interaction as my friend Danae, there was no doubt that both Matt and Dom knew and remembered me from Brussels. (Also, Nicola, whose M&G I’d bought when it was relatively cheap because she’s an amazing lady!) Of course it helps that our squad was quite visible – and in a good way, as we try our best to leave good impressions, since there are enough crazies in this fandom already.

(This isn’t to say that things like Ethan Peck shaking my hand and thanking us for our work don’t give me a thrill. *g*) Since there’s almost a year between cons, we try to see each other between that – cake break with two of the bunch on the way back from the Netherlands in September, a visit by three in October (which will be great, as I love playing guide – and it’s good for my wallet, too. *g*).

I made the mistake of signing up for no less than FIVE cons between Easter and mid-July. And in between I’ve been sick, right now with a bronchitis, so that’s fun. :/
Anyways, in the past weeks I’ve done something I’ve rarely done in my offline life: I’ve come out to people as aro-ace.
So far, I’d only identified as such to my mom and my best friend in so many words (who both took it as well as could be expected from people who have no experience with the queer community), although I’ve been quite clear about not ever wanting a relationship when talking to some people at work.
I definitely didn’t go into details with any of them, didn’t mention that the only sex I’m interested in is in my head.
Continue reading “In honour of Pride month”My schedule’s just been rather full for my introvert standards, what with cons (SEBASTIAN STAN!), the wedding of my oldest friend and other mostly good things (except for my laptop almost dying on me). It’s put me in the mood to write nothing longer than Masto posts.
This includes fanfiction, with the exception of my 520 fic: 越界 (Yue Jie – Crossing a Border)
I’ve gotten so much lovely feedback on my first real Guardian fic, it’s made me feel somewhat guilty for being so behind on all the amazing new content. (The one I got was great, though – Make a Gamble, Take a Gamble by Trobadora, an exploration of episodes 23/24. *hearteyes*)
Also, I am currently rewatching the show from start with a couple of other people on watch2gether. We’re currently at ep 7. It’s usually at 8pm CET and I announce it on Fandom.ink, in case you’re interested… 🙂
Rewatching He’s Coming to Me and reveling in the wonderfulness of episodes 4 and 5 (fan dee nah!, cheating the test *g*, figuring out Met’s name, the birthday date!, Thun’s struggle with his sexuality, Met’s heartbreak, the entire fucking rooftop scene, and of course the KISS!) as I try to mentally steel myself for the Shadowhunters series finale. I refuse to watch it by myself, so I’m waiting for @rebelqueenss so we can suffer together.
Because
I’m sure we will suffer – and let’s be real, probably not in the “I
can’t believe it’s ending!” way, because unfortunately I haven’t been
very happy with 3b in too many ways to count. Often, when I really love a
show, I never actually finish watching it, so it won’t ever be
completely over – it’s why I still haven’t seen the end of season 2 of Agent Carter.
While with Shadowhunters,
my love is for the potential it had (and sadly squandered way too
often), for the characters I’ve come to love and of course most of all
for the beauty of the parabatai relationship and my beloved OTP. So in a
way I’m actually glad it’ll be over, because then we can go ahead and
fix canon in whatever way we want – that’s what fanfic is for, after
all.
(I’m very much hoping my inspiration will return to me, because I’ve been so disillusioned, I haven’t even wanted to write my missing parabatai scenes drabbles… Ironic, considering that the sidelining of their relationship is one of my biggest pet peeves – just like all relationships that aren’t romantic have been sidelined.

Continue reading “Reminders ep. 1 liveblog”A couple of weeks ago my employer announced our annual bonus – so to celebrate I decided to go on Etsy for some shopping! 🙂
I ended up ordering two customised pieces of jewelry in the aro-ace flag colours. (They were originally just ace colours – black/grey/white/purple – and I asked for aro colours to be added – green/light-green/white/grey/black.) Both arrived in the meantime, and I really like them a lot:
They’re so pretty, and I can easily wear them every day. (And the ring is slightly adjustable, which I prefer because my fingers seem to change in size depending on the weather. *g*)
Tolkien largely excluded women from his stories—I don’t think there’s a single one in The Hobbit—but he had genuine insight into not just the male society he belonged to, but its differing permutations passed down out of classical and Anglo-Saxon legend and historical record.

Great meta on LotR and how its men are allowed to have and show emotions. Unsurprising that in our post-homosocial society we often read these deep relationships as gay, resulting in some of the most iconic slash ships (looking at you, Holmes & Watson!)…

I, umm, didn’t leave my house this weekend. Oops? 🙂 I did, however, do lots of inside stuff:
I also watched the next episode of my current Boys Love addiction – He’s Coming to Me is cute, warm-hearted, and hitting ALL the emotional beats. Although we’re only 4 subbed episodes in, I’ve already added it to my recs list (which I’ve been updating, btw). Met and Thun are totally adorable and have such sweet chemistry, plus I’m actually invested in the plot: Met is a ghost, and Thun is the only person who can see him. So they a) can’t touch, for extra feels, and b) have to figure out how Met died. And above all of this reincarnation looms… Usually I’d worry about a tragic ending, but the whole show has such a positive spirit overall, I think it’ll be hopeful in some way, even if I can’t see how. Well, only four more episodes, apparently…
Oh, and I finally watched episode 30 of Guardian – things are definitely coming to a head!
